Why Choose Bluehost

In the last ten years of blogging, I have used many different platforms, but Bluehost has been by far one of the best hosting companies that I have used especially if you are using WordPress for your blog.

Bluehost is easy to use, as is WordPress, making set up very simple. Bluehost is also one of the more affordable companies on the market. Using my link below, you can get your hosting for $5.95 a month, however, right now it is on special for $3.95 per month, along with a free blog domain. By using a hosting provider and purchasing your domain, your blog will appear more professional beginning, rather than going with a WordPress.com or Blogspot hosted blog.

Getting Set Up

Register a Domain Name

What is a domain?  A domain is a unique name that identifies you or your website; this is also called a web address. There are many sites available to purchase your domain name from, I used BlueHost to purchase mine when I opted to go the self-hosting route. By purchasing for a twelve month period through Bluehost, I was able to secure my domain name for free. This alone made it worth signing up with this company. Plus the price comes out cheaper by doing it this way.

Another thing you may want to do is consider purchasing all variations of your name. Unfortunately, there are people out there who will purposely purchase domains close to that of popular blogs in order to confuse people. I have read countless horror stories from business owners who have actually had other people set up sites identical to theirs, causing these business owners much grief from things these people are doing. So if you are able to, this is something that you should consider doing in order to protect your brand.

Here is a FREE widget that will allow you to check if a domain name you had in mind is available!

What is Web Hosting?

A short explanation is this; web hosting is essentially a parking space for your blog. For many companies, you can pay monthly or yearly, for this service. As previously mentioned many hosting companies also offer packages that include your hosting service and domain name. I highly recommend going this route, as it can save you a lot of time and headache.

Pick a Host

Setting up your blog on Bluehost is easy. If you are new to blogging, I would recommend starting out with the “Basic” package. It’s normally $5.95 per month through my link, but right now it is only $3.95 per month if you sign up for 36 months. If you feel like you need to go with a higher plan, later on, don’t worry, it’s simple to change. I also recommend purchasing the site protection for $0.99 as well. This is to ensure that your information stays secure.

Bluehost does not offer a month to month plan currently, however, by purchasing fo the full twelve moths you still get amazing benefits and you have the ability to cancel.

Creating your blog

Of course, I am going to recommend WordPress. It is literally the easiest platform there is. Of course, you may be attracted to something as beautiful as SquareSpace, but there are still too many limitations on SS, while WP gives you a lot more freedom to control your platform. If you are self-hosting make sure you use WordPress.org and NOT .com; they are two completely different platforms, and with .com you cannot monetize your blog.

Installing WordPress on Bluehost

  1. While on your Cpanel, find and click the image that says “one click install”. Next, find the WordPress icon located under “blogs” and press “start” to begin the installation process.
  2. Once there, decide which domain you want WordPress installed on. There is a drop-down menu, choose your domain from there.
  3. Once completed, you will “Advanced Options”. This will allow you to set up your username and password for your WordPress website. Make sure you create a username that is secure and will be difficult to guess. I strongly advise NOT using your name or “admin”. Hackers will commonly try those first.
  4. Click “Install Now”

There you have it! That’s all you need to set up your WordPress blog.
