However, don’t fret.

I am going to break down for you the essential things that every single blog posting of yours will need in order to be seen by others. Thus effectively driving traffic to your site.

What is SEO?

SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization. Simply put, the better your SEO is, the better your chances are of your site appearing at the top of search engine results. You want your blog to rank as high with Google as possible, and SEO is one of the ways to do it.

SEO Keys To Success

Like DJ Khaled, I am going to provide you with a few keys to success to start you with understanding the basics of optimizing your site.

  1. Link to old blog posts: Interlinking to other posts on your site will let Google know that you have a wide array of topics and knowledge on a particular subject. Not only that, the more people click around on your site the better it is for your ranking. So linking to other posts (that are relevant to the topic at hand) is important.
  2. The more words the better (but not too many). For SEO purposes do not put out content that has less than 300 words, in order for Google to even pick you up effectively, try and make you’re posting 550 or more. But no more than 1100-1500, at that point you will need to break it up into additional posts.
  3. Images: Make sure your images are correctly optimized for Google. Correct any tags you have and include the appropriate keywords. While you’re at it, keep Pinterest in mind. You want to make sure that all of your alt tags are correct as well. Pinterest is a like a giant search engine, so the same way you want to make your posts keyword rich, make sure your images for Pinterest are as well.
  4. Titles: When it comes to online posts, titles are everything. Sensational or catchy titles are what will make your reader decide whether or not they want to bother with your site. But keep in mind; be careful with the clickbait titles. It works very well for sites like Buzzfeed and The Onion, however, for small time bloggers, you make get some viral success, but they seem to just piss people off more often than not.

Of course, there is. The great thing about technology is that there will ALWAYS be something out there to solve a problem.

YOAST SEO PLUGIN

The Yoast SEO plugin is a literal lifesaver. Simply download this plugin on to your WordPress site (dot org not dot com), and when you begin to create your post you complete the following steps.

-Using the Snippet Editor, type in the title you want to show up on search engines. In the URL box, make sure that it includes the SEO title of your post. In box three you are going to write your meta subscription. This is just a quick synopsis of your post and should not be more than 180 characters. (hint: use your Twitter fingers).

-Focus Keyword; KEYWORDS, KEYWORDS, KEYWORDS. I can’t preach anymore just how important this is. Make sure your keywords are specific and that too only use one keyword. You have to try and imagine what people will search for when they are looking for posts similar to yours. Make sure the first few lines of your blog post includes the keywords you have specified.

This tool is great because it will automatically monitor your site’s performance (once you sign up of course). Once signed up, submit your content to Google so that your site will gain more visibility on search engines.
